What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is the first widely adopted cryptocurrency, being a decentralized digital currency that can be sent electronically from one user to another without the need for a middleman such as a bank or government, and for this reason the currency is also called "peer-to-peer electronic cash".
Transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, and it uses cryptography to secure its transactions. It was created in 2009 by an anonymous individual or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto.
One interesting thing about Bitcoin is that it has a finite supply of 21 million coins. This is different from traditional fiat currencies, which can be printed by governments to create more supply. As of June 2022, over 19 million bitcoins have been mined, and the last bitcoin is expected to be mined in the year 2140.
Satoshi Nakamoto
Very little is known about Satoshi Nakamoto, despite the fact that they are considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of technology and finance. Another interesting thing about Satoshi Nakamoto is that they were active in the project until 2010, communicating with other members of the Bitcoin community through email and forums, and then they disappeared completely, leaving behind a legacy that has had a profound impact on the world of finance and technology.
